EVENTS AND RETCONS

Over the past 15 or so years, Marvel has gone crazy with crossover events, some good, some bad, and people are getting sick of it. The surprises and deaths get retconned or have no effect about a year later most times. For example, Civil War II has Bruce Banner killed by Hawkeye, that was just changed nearly a year later in the new Secret Empire event, in which Hydra Captain America revived him for their purposes.

Considering that Secret Empire is their last event for a long time, that serves well for it. but the retcons and fatigue as well as the storylines from them carry on into it. For example, Tony Stark still is dealing with post Civil War II garbage carrying on into legacy according to the first issue solicits. Captain America won’t be Hydra, but he will deal with the after effects of Hydra in Secret Empire in his new legacy comic series.

Another problem isn’t just the events, but the relaunches and initiatives, (which legacy’s supposed to the last of) has after effects that still play out today, just look at the original Marvel NOW! the Superior Spider-Man’s arcs are still in play today. I’ve stressed in the other posts that they should completely reboot, and a lot of people agree. Some events are completely forgotten seemingly, like Secret Wars (2015), which is one of my favorites. but it also messed up a lot by getting rid of the Fantastic Four. I think they should bring them back by incorporating Ulysses and the elders of the universe into a story where the tells Reed, Sue, Franklin, and Valeria Richards that the 616 they put together is really bad and that it is causing huge disasters and that they are altering time too much. Ulysses has a bad vision of what’s to come. they find this out and fix it, resetting the universe and bringing them back and restoring Marvel to the publisher it used to be, also fixing Captain America.

But that’s just my fan idea. But seriously, Marvel needs to stop events.

POLITICAL GARBAGE AND BAD WRITERS

WELL, MARVEL IS RUN BY LIBERALS AND SJWs…

giphy-1

Yeah, surprising isn’t it… NOT!

These people however have turned away readers, making good comics into political “everyone is liberal” books. With making Captain America, an American icon into a Nazi communist, Creating TrumpD.O.K. and secret Empire, not to mention Champions which could have been a great book if Mark Waid wasn’t writing it, and America, a series that really shouldn’t have been made at all. (which also pays tribute to a controversial Beyoncé song). I do not know what to do but not like them anymore. They have writers like Nick Spencer and Mark Waid, who can be great writers, but made a mistake by putting

political messages in the books and digging themselves a really big hole, not to mention they’re real life jerks. Other writers like Dan Slott rarely ever get political (except For The Amazing Spider-Man: Worldwide (2015) #1), however have good ideas but they turn into disasters, or have been on one book so long everyone gets tired of them and start to suck. Not to mention to are absolutely cruel to people who don’t agree with their political views.

Then there’s writers like Brian Michael Bendis… Writers who were once great, but have run out of ideas and are reusing the same plot over and over again now. Civil War II had bad writing by Bendis, His Miles Morales series was really good, but is definitely starting to struggle and slump. my point being, fire their bad writers, get Bendis to go away for a bit, Slott to never return to Spider-Man, destroy Nick Spencer’s career if it isn’t already, but keep Mark Waid, who’s a good writer, just censor his politically offensive stuff.

STATUS QUOS THAT “HONOR” THE CHARACTER’S LEGACIES

source: comicbook.com

Marvel Legacy is supposed honor the legacy of the characters, however, the new status quos are good and bad. like The Punisher becoming War Machine… How on earth does that honor the “legacy” of the characters? Spider-Man losing Parker Industries, which I’m all for, but after years of building up the company, it all just crashes to the ground? Why even do that? Iron Man wakes up and runs away? How many times has he even done that now? But some character’s status quos are great like Venom becoming the lethal protector, Deadpool become a crazy mercenary, Sam Wilson becoming Falcon again, these are great, but the major characters still have problems.

I’ve discussed my reasons why they should reboot in my other legacy posts, just reboot it already, you don’t need any super complicated garbage mess to change everything back to the way it was. Just Reboot.

CONFUSION FOR NEW READERS

As if it wasn’t confusing enough for new readers with all of the #1’s every year, Legacy is going to it’s original numbering, leaving Thor at 700, Spider-Man at 787, Avengers at 672, it’s annoying. Maybe it’ll be good in the long run, but it could also be bad. For years Marvel has been doing 6-12 issue story arcs, as that is good, it’s also a pain in the neck, as you have to buy tons of issues to see the end of the arc, or wait for the TPB, but by that time Marvel ends up cancelling the series if sales drop due to people waiting for the trades, like The Vision and Black Panther and the Crew series. Of course, this is a hard thing to fix, but don’t

cancel series due to bad sales, and wait for the first trade at least, as well as the reviews and feedback on whether the series is good or not.

This some of what I think ruins Marvel, there are many other things, like what are listed in my other posts of what is bad, I might even write why Marvel Legacy works, but right now it isn’t looking like it is, sure when Generations and the Marvel Legacy one-shot come out, maybe it will be different, but it looks to be the same old comics with new, odd adjectives before characters. But hey, at least we have an AWESOME GHOST RIDER THAT RIDES A MAMMOTH!
